ROUTINE HEALTH NOTES

VACCINATIONS. Dogs are routinely vaccinated against Distemper, Hepatitis,
Leptospirosis, Parvovirus and Parainfluenza. Puppies require 2 doses: Vaccinations at 8 and 10 weeks is ideal. A vaccine against "kennel cough" is also available for use prior to kenneling. Cats are routinely vaccinated against "Cat Flu", Feline Enteritis and Leukaemia. Kittens require 2 doses 21 days apart, the second of which must not be before 12 weeks of age. Vaccination at 9 and 12 weeks is ideal. Rabbits are routinely vaccinated against Myxomatosis and VHD (Viral Haemorrhagic Disease). For all dogs, cats and rabbits annual booster vaccinations are required to maintain the protection against these potentially lethal diseases. Remember that your pet will receive a health check prior to vaccination and your visit also provides you with an opportunity to ask the vet about any matter which may concern you regarding your pet.

WORMING. Puppies and kittens should be wormed from 3 weeks of age on several occasions, the interval between doses depending upon the product used. Ask for details and advice. Adult dogs and cats should be wormed every 3-6 months against both round and tapeworms. Modern worming products often given as a single dose in the food are both safe, easy to use and effective.

NEUTERING. Kittens are routinely neutered at 5-6 months of age. Dogs and bitches can also be neutered from 6 months of age: this is best discussed with one of our staff prior to booking the operation.
